The older SHA-1 signing algorithm was gradually phased out for security reasons, as SHA-1 was found to be vulnerable to collision attacks. Legacy Windows systems—specifically those that have not been updated with SHA-2 code signing support—cannot verify the authenticity of drivers signed with SHA-2, leading to installation failures.
