The plot jumps forward twenty years. The adult Víctor (Liberto Rabal) seeks out Elena (Francesca Neri), a wealthy but drug-addicted diplomat’s daughter he slept with a week prior. When Elena refuses him, a struggle for her gun ensues. The gun goes off, and the responding police officers, the troubled Sancho and the righteous David (Javier Bardem), are drawn into the chaos, resulting in David being shot and paralyzed.
