The movie takes place several years after the events of the first film. As she navigates a treacherous world of magic and deception, Thomasin must confront her own demons and face a new threat in the form of a mysterious figure from her past.

Upon its release on June 15, 2022, the film was a commercial hit. It became the seventh highest-grossing Korean film of that year, accumulating a worldwide gross of over $23.4 million and selling more than 2.8 million tickets. It even outperformed Hollywood giants like "Top Gun: Maverick" and "Lightyear" in the South Korean box office for advance ticketing.
